Deborah A. Osiro, Institute for Security Studies (ISS)
Ms. Osiro is a researcher in ISS Nairobi in the Environmental Security Programme. The programme addresses environmental security-related issues in Sub-Saharan Africa by developing a knowledge base on the nexus between the environment, human security, crime and conflict in the region. Her professional background is policy and research work in international trade law, regional integration, economic and national security issues.
She has previously worked as a policy analyst for the Kenyan civil service and on research and advocacy at Consumer Unity and Trust Society (CUTS) in India. She has also consulted for the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) Kenya, UNCTAD and UNICEF on issues ranging from international trade, regional trading arrangements, investment and competition policy to various regulatory issues including communications, energy and government procurement.
Ms. Osiro, who is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya, holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the University of Nairobi (Kenya) and a Masters of Laws (LL.M.) in International Trade Law from Amsterdam Law School (The Netherlands). She has also studied Security and Strategic Studies at the University of Nairobi.
