Chikosa Banda, University of Malawi and University of Cambridge
Mr. Banda, a Malawian national, is a law lecturer, researcher and consultant. His research interests include human rights law, intellectual property law and environmental law. He is employed by the University of Malawi as a law lecturer and is at the same time a PhD candidate in the University of Cambridge. His doctoral research is on “Patents and the Promotion of Biomedical R&D for Underserved Markets: the Case of Malawi.” In particular, the research focuses on how the global system for organizing and incentivizing research can align research priorities with genuine public health needs, and explores how patent law may be used as a tool for stimulating biomedical research in a manner that is ethical and takes into consideration the interests of the global rich and poor. Previously he served as an attorney in private practice and a consultant for DFID, the Danish Institute for Human Rights and the Government of Malawi.
Mr. Banda holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from the University of Malawi and Master of Laws (LL.M) degree from the University of Essex.
