Miss Hope Krukru, University of Reading, UK
Ms. Krukru, a Nigerian national, is a researcher and legal practitioner. She has worked as a barrister and solicitor in private practice in Nigeria and as a solicitor in England. Ms. Krukru has also worked with several NGOs on various projects including the Open Society Justice Initiative prison decongestion Scheme in Nigeria. She is involved in rendering free legal advice through the Citizens Advice Bureau, in the United Kingdom. Currently she is a consultant with H & O Professional Services, LLP. UK.
Ms. Krukru is a PhD candidate at the University of Reading, UK. Her doctoral research is on ‘The effectiveness of Litigation in Reducing Oil and Gas Pollution in Nigeria’. In her doctoral research Mr. Krukru tries, in particular, to investigate whether the rise in litigation against Multinational Corporations in Nigeria has led to a decrease in environmental pollution.
Ms. Krukru is the author of A Case for Human Rights Based Approach to Development: Multinational Corporations in Africa, in the International Bar Association, African Regional Forum, Vol. 3, No 2, in June 2009. In May 2009 she presented a paper about ‘Foreign Investments and Human Rights: How Compatible? A Case Study of Oil Activities in Nigeria’s Niger Delta’, at the Annual Graduate Conference of the University of Reading School of Law. In July 2009, she presented a paper about ‘The Role of Transnational Corporations in Sustainable Development in Developing Economies’ at the Sixth Annual College of Arts and Social Sciences Postgraduate Conference, in the University of Aberdeen, Scotland.
Ms. Krukru holds a Masters of Law degree (LL.M) in International Law with International Relations from the University of Kent, UK, and a Bachelor of Laws from the Rivers State University in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. She is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association, Law Society of England and Wales, the International Bar Association, and the UK Environmental Law Association.
Her research interests include environmental law, law and development, corporate accountability and human rights.
